(Adds further comments in last two paragraphs)
MOSCOW, Nov 7 (PRIME) -- The Russian ruble has increased by almost 2 rubles against the U.S. dollar to 46.67 on rumors that the central bank is holding an emergency meeting, several traders told PRIME on Friday.
“We have heard a rumor that the central bank is holding an emergency meeting. This is why the market is preparing for the central bank stepping in with unscheduled interventions,” a Renaissance Capital trader Levon Atanasyan said.
“The market is expecting interventions by the central bank amid news that the authority is holding an emergency meeting,” Sergei Romanchuk, foreign currency market operations department director of Metallinvestbank, said.
The central bank today has probably not conducted foreign currency interventions yet, Romanchuk said.
